Modding the current playtest

The shipped build exposes readable Lua, data templates, asset override paths, map files, and debug settings. Start with Lua or data. Use managed-code changes only when the shipped interfaces cannot do the job.

Choose a surface

Start here

Lua and templates

Change gameplay scripts, AI, or unit data in readable source files.
Built in

Asset overrides

Load loose files or ZIP-based .sanpack archives from the Mods paths.

Available

Maps

Inspect JSON-based .sanmap files and the included map tools.

Advanced

Managed code

Read the Mono assembly when Lua does not expose the required behavior.

Use a reversible test cycle

  1. Copy the original file and record the documentation version ID.
  2. Make one small, reversible change appropriate to the chosen surface.
  3. Run an offline test and capture the relevant log output.
  4. Restore the original file before testing another change.

Continue with the Lua overview, asset overrides, or map tools.
